A sign outside Cambridge Friends School<\/a> pointed us toward the current home of Majestic Yoga Studio<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Inside was a shared classroom filled with mats, blocks, yoga equipment, and enough open space for a group session. Majestic is currently teaching from the school, and this was where we had been hired to photograph and film the studio.<\/p>\n

Lindsay Gibson, Majestic Yoga Studio\u2019s founder, introduced us to Sila, Nora, Joanna, and Imani. For this yoga studio video production, we were hired to create one recap for Instagram and social media, along with a collection of photographs.<\/p>\n

That was the plan when we arrived.<\/p>\n

Once the session began, it became clear that one general recap would leave out too much.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Each person took a turn leading while the others followed along.<\/p>\n

At first, we concentrated on the movement in the room. We filmed the group practicing together, close details of their poses, the equipment around the classroom, and the signs helping students find the studio.<\/p>\n

The footage gave us the visual side of the session, but it was not showing the full difference between the four teachers.<\/p>\n

Their voices were part of the experience.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

One person might guide a movement slowly, leaving space between each direction. Another might be more direct. The words they chose, their pacing, and the way they led the room gave each portion of the session a different feeling.<\/p>\n

A recap covered entirely with music could show that Majestic offers yoga classes. It could not show someone what it might be like to take a class with Sila, Nora, Joanna, or Imani.<\/p>\n

I asked Lindsay whether we could record their instruction.<\/p>\n

We mic\u2019d each person separately during the portion they led. The other three continued moving through the session, so we were able to capture clear teaching soundbites without changing the way they interacted.<\/p>\n

That decision gave the footage something it had been missing.<\/p>\n

We were no longer filming only how the classes looked. We could also hear how each person taught.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Most of the production took place inside the classroom.<\/p>\n

Keeping the same setting gave the footage consistency, but the four teachers did not come across the same way. Their pacing, movement, and presence in front of the group were different, so we adjusted our coverage around what each person was giving us.<\/p>\n

Some portions felt stronger when the teaching voice led the scene. Others needed more room for movement and music before the instruction entered.<\/p>\n

The goal was not to place everyone into the same template. It was to create enough variety for their individual styles to come through later.<\/p>\n

For Nora\u2019s portion, we moved to the field behind the school.<\/p>\n

The outdoor setting changed the footage immediately. Instead of classroom walls and equipment, she was surrounded by open space, grass, and natural light. It was still part of the same Majestic production, but it gave her portion its own visual direction.<\/p>\n

By then, we were not collecting four versions of the same scene.<\/p>\n

We were beginning to see four separate introductions.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Edit Made the Answer Clear<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n

We still thought we might be creating one recap when we left the school.<\/p>\n

The direction changed after I reviewed everything together.<\/p>\n

We had teaching audio from each person. We had wide views of the group, close details of individual movements, indoor sequences, outdoor footage, and photographs from across the session.<\/p>\n

There was enough material for all four teachers to stand on their own.<\/p>\n

Combining everything into one recap would have reduced each person to a few seconds. Their voices would have competed for space, and much of what separated one teaching style from another would have disappeared beneath the music.<\/p>\n

Four individual edits gave Majestic another option.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Instead of introducing the team at once, the studio could introduce each person separately. One edit could begin with a spoken direction. Another could open with a slower sequence of movement before bringing the voice forward.<\/p>\n

The videos would still feel connected because they came from the same production, but each one could have its own pace and structure.<\/p>\n

One recap would have shown what happened that day.<\/p>\n

Four edits gave people a better chance to meet the teachers.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Photography had been part of the assignment from the beginning, and the images gave Majestic another way to use the session.<\/p>\n

We photographed Sila, Nora, Joanna, and Imani leading, practicing together, moving through the classroom, and working outside. We also documented the signs, equipment, and details that helped establish the studio\u2019s current space.<\/p>\n

The photographs did not need to do the same job as the videos.<\/p>\n

A video could let someone hear a teaching voice and follow the pace of a movement. A photograph could hold onto one expression, position, interaction, or detail long enough for it to be used on the website, in a profile, or alongside a future studio announcement.<\/p>\n

Together, the photography and video gave Majestic several ways to introduce its team and the place where they currently teach.<\/p>\n

The studio was no longer relying on one piece of content to carry every person and every part of the session.<\/p>\n

That is one reason we often plan photography and video together. The still images and moving footage can serve different purposes while remaining part of the same body of work.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I have always had a habit of recording more than the most obvious version of an assignment.<\/p>\n

Sometimes that gives me the material needed to find a stronger direction in the edit. It can also create more work. More footage has to be reviewed, more possibilities have to be considered, and a project that began with one deliverable can quickly become something larger.<\/p>\n

That instinct has to be managed.<\/p>\n

Not every project should expand beyond its original scope. When a business knows it needs several videos, profiles, or campaign pieces, those deliverables should normally be planned and priced before production begins.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This project was different because the footage revealed a clear reason to reconsider the original format.<\/p>\n

The value was not simply that we had recorded more. The difference came from paying attention to what was already there.<\/p>\n

Once I heard the teaching audio and watched how differently the four teachers carried their portions of the session, one general recap no longer felt like the best use of the material.<\/p>\n

We completed four individual instructor edits.<\/p>\n

What began as one recap became a larger social media collection that gave Sila, Nora, Joanna, and Imani room to appear as individuals. The photographs added another layer, connecting the people, movement, classroom, equipment, and outdoor setting without asking one video to carry everything.<\/p>\n

That is what stayed with me after the project.<\/p>\n

A production plan matters. So does recognizing when the work in front of you is pointing toward a better decision.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
